Here goes nothin'!
This being my first attempt, I went to my Mimi's house to have her show me how to complete the title page and first spread. She talked me through some basics of using the Martha Stewart punches, matting, and organizing your materials. Here's what we got:
I was super excited about it! So I went home and followed her lead! First step- choose the pictures for the spread.
I decided to organize my scrapbook by each trip. The trip that I would start off on my own would be from August of 2013. I really loved the four pictures at the bottom- I thought they would make a great little "time line" of sorts. The four of us were all trying to pull the sword from the stone, and from the looks of it, you can see that we were unsuccessful!
This picture, however, you'll see a lot of over the course of this scrapbook! We take a picture in the same place each time, and it's crazy now to go back and look at the time-lapse over the past few years!
Then, the color scheme and materials!
I went with the red and black theme for this trip because there wasn't necessarily a season or anything to correlate this trip with. Therefore, a classic Disney comic strip background made a great layout for some red accents! I also found some die cut shapes, pulled out my wooden letters, and then a few little things from the trip! The most important being the room key from our hotel! My Mimi kept telling me that scrapbooks were great because you never really make a mistake- you just don't glue anything down until you're completely happy with it. It can always be changed! :)
And then i took the plunge: martha stewart hole punches...
Everything was going GREAT... until...
RATS! At least this was fixable- I just cut it off and restarted it! Luckily, I didn't have this problem around the photo that I punched, so it worked out a little better! So after I got all of my pieces cut out, I started the arranging process!
Looking at it, I was happy with everything except the fact that the pictures on the right weren't matted. So keeping in mind that it can always be changed, I pulled them all off and started to mat them on red paper!
Finally, it was all done! And being happy with it, they all got glued down!
What to work on next time?
+ I want to be a little more creative with the punches. Those things are AWESOME, and they weren't near as tough to work with as I thought!
+ I want to look at some layouts on Pinterest to get some ideas for color schemes- I really struggled with putting colors together. Someone told me to use paint swatches for ideas, so I might try that too!
